Dealing with separation related behaviours

Course Description:

Separation related behaviour problems are commonly reported in the pet dogpopulation and veterinary practices are often asked for advice.

Dogs ­displaying these behaviours can be difficult to manage and their caregivers are often ­understandably distressed. These issues can be complex and there are a range of reasons why dogs may display ­unwanted behaviours when they are left alone.

Understanding of this topic has advanced greatly in recent years and the idea of one condition of “­separation anxiety” is now outdated. This short course will look at the various potential motivations for behaviours that occur in the context of separation and show why an accurate detection of the underlying cause is needed before treatment options can be considered. The presentations will go on to discuss the approaches to short term management and longer term treatment for these patients.

Short breaks will be scheduled throughout the course.
